Stewed Cabbage with Minced Meat and Rice

- Prepare vegetables. Cut the cabbage and onion, grate the carrots.
- Fry onion and carrots.
- Add minced meat and spices. Fry the meat until it is ready.
- Throw the cabbage and some water, stew for 10 minutes.
- Add washed rice to the pot and leave for 5 minutes.
- Add tomato sauce and remaining water to the cabbage with minced meat and rice. Stew for 30 minutes.

I’m sure there was a moment in your life when you thought about what to make with cabbage. This, of course, is not such a “sick” topic as with zucchini or pumpkin, but it is still quite common. Someone gets the cabbage from relatives or friends, but someone just decided to diversify his table. Moreover, the cabbage is available for almost a year, slowly moving from “young” to “old”. That’s why today’s recipe will be a kind of chopstick for everyone who wants to pamper himself with a simple and tasty dish made of cabbage.
And most importantly, all the ingredients are trivial, cooking takes a minimum of time, and this version of cabbage with minced meat and rice can be cooked at once for the entire working week, providing a hearty meal – not for nothing in the people sometimes call it “lazy stuffed cabbage”.
This variant of cabbage with minced meat and rice is equally well obtained on the stove, in the oven or in a multicooker. So cook in the way you like.
Fact
For starters, let’s prepare cabbage and other vegetables. The cabbage should not be too yellow, without dried up and rotten leaves. Everything superfluous just rip off and throw away. The rest of the cabbage we chop in small strips.
Separately rub carrots (1 pcs.) and cut onions (1 pcs.). Onions can be cut in small strips or cubes.
It is most convenient to cut cabbage on a large board, pre-cutting the cabbage into several small parts. So you minimize the chance of cutting and keep your kitchen clean and orderly.
Tip
Now you need to fry some onions and carrots. So I cook on the stove, it’s convenient to pass the vegetables right in the pot.
If you want to cook cabbage in the oven, do the initial steps in the pan. Add a little oil (2 tbsp) to the dishes and fry the vegetables for 3-5 minutes over low heat. During this time, the onion will become transparent and will lose its sharpness.
Add minced meat to the pot (600 g). I had at hand a good minced meat assortment, so I use it. If you want you can take pork, beef, turkey or chicken version. The stewed cabbage is delicious in combination with any minced meat. While the minced meat is fried, we make the fire a little bigger and constantly stir the meat, trying to break the big lumps.
At the same time we pour spices. I use salt, black ground pepper, paprika, some dried garlic and a set of herbs.
Cook the minced meat almost to the readiness, so that in the finished dish you can feel the taste of fried meat, not boiled.
Then we throw the cabbage to the stuffing and add a little water, about 50 ml. Leave to prepare for 10 minutes, under the lid. During this time, all the cabbage will be significantly reduced in volume. If you cook in the oven, this step can already be done in it. After 10 minutes we add washed rice (200 g). Mix it with cabbage and minced meat, and leave it to fry for 5 minutes.
In principle, this stage is not obligatory, but I like it better. After 5 minutes, the mass is quite homogeneous, the rice absorbed the water and browned a little. So we safely add the remaining water and tomato sauce (2 tbsp).
If you use tomato paste, you should add it to the water so that it has time to fry a little and get rid of the earthy taste of raw tomato. Next, I continue to cook without the lid, so a lot of liquid boils out. For the multicooker and oven, add less water, or do it gradually so as not to turn the rice with cabbage and minced meat into soup.
In 30 minutes we switch off “lazy cabbage”. Most often I give it about 30 minutes more to insist under the lid, so that all flavors finally united.
