Just a month ago I did not know what kind of fish is a grenadier and what they eat it with. But when I saw the new name on the counter once, I immediately caught fire with a desire to cook something unusual and delicious. Googling the information about the fish learned that the another official name of the fish has a rattails, and the names of grenadier are used in the common people, although that’s how it was signed in the store. The fish belongs to the group of Macrourinae, so it was immediately clear that the meat will be protein and nonfat – an excellent diet option. This was the reason why it was decided how to cook the grenadier.
I chose the stew variant with vegetables. For starters, we prepare fish. We let it defrost a little, but you can do it not until the very end, so it would be more convenient to cut it.
Since the fish is very tender and nonfat, it can fall apart when sliced. Cut the grenadier in slices of about 5 cm to put in one layer in a small pot or shape.
I used a saucepan for this recipe, and I cook on the stove, but you can safely cook fish in a baking form in the oven. Next, we work on vegetables. We clean carrots and onions. Rub the carrots on a large grater, cut the onions with half rings or rings.
We also grate cheese. I use Russian, but you can take any other variety that melts well.
We begin to put vegetables and fish grenadier in a container for cooking. At the bottom of the pot put carrots and half onions, so that the result is a sweet vegetable cushion.
From above, we put the fish. In my case it turned out to be quite tight, because my pot would not allow to put everything in 2 rows.

The last step left is to add some water and yogurt. Instead of yogurt, you can take sour cream. Mix them in a separate dish and pour sauce over the fish.
Put the pot on the stove, close the lid, bring it to a boil and leave on a small fire.
In this mode, the fish grenadier with vegetables stew for about 30 minutes. It is gentle, so it cooks very quickly. As I said before, you can also cook fish in the oven.
After half an hour we add cheese to the fish, making a hat like a casserole.
We wait until the cheese melts and turn off our dish.
As you can see, the grenadier (macrourus) is being prepared very quickly. At the end we get a delicious healthy fish, which can be enjoyed by everyone who adheres to the diet.
I also note that the fish is very comfortable to eat, as it has few bones. It is especially good for those who are going to give fish to children.
